UPDATE 003 – MAURITIUS SECURITY SITUATION
Tuesday 13 October 2026 | 7:50 p.m.

Following the Prime Minister’s address to the nation this evening, an important new security measure has been announced.

CURFEW TONIGHT

A curfew will apply from 8:30 p.m. tonight until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

The Prime Minister indicated that special arrangements will apply for people requiring medical attention.

For clarity, under section 13C of the Police Act, being employed in an essential service does not by itself constitute an automatic exemption from the curfew. A person covered by the curfew order must remain indoors unless authorised in accordance with a permit issued by the Commissioner of Police.

The Police and the Special Mobile Force remain mobilised.

SC AND HSC EXAMS MAINTAINED

School Certificate and Higher School Certificate examinations scheduled for tomorrow will proceed at the times already scheduled in Mauritius, Rodrigues and Agaléga.

Other local examinations scheduled in schools are postponed.

ÉLODIE THOMAS

Élodie Thomas underwent a lengthy surgical intervention during which the bullet was successfully removed.

She has regained consciousness, opened her eyes and is responding, while remaining under close medical supervision.

CURRENT ASSESSMENT

The introduction of a curfew represents a significant increase in the authorities’ precautionary response.

It does not, by itself, mean that violence has spread nationwide. However, it demonstrates the seriousness with which the Government is treating the risk of further disturbances tonight.

Everyone should respect the curfew, remain at home unless duly authorised to circulate, avoid rumours and rely on verified information.

The Prime Minister also appealed for responsible reporting and verification of information, something that is particularly important tonight.

Stay calm. Stay informed. Stay united.
